Tyrannosaurus lived closer to the smartphone than to Stegosaurus.
The gap between Stegosaurus and T. rex is roughly 80 million years, longer than the gap between T. rex and today. That span is why "the age of dinosaurs" is misleading: the Mesozoic ran for over 150 million years and its residents replaced one another repeatedly. The asteroid impact 66 million years ago ended the non-avian lineages, but birds are dinosaurs, so the group never fully disappeared.
